| Five to Try // Gingham |
Gingham. Gingham. Gingham.
You guys, it is absolutely everywhere (in stores and in my closet haha). You may have noticed yourself that this picnic-inspired print is popping up in all different colors, shapes, and sizes. I have personally been on my own gingham kick lately. While I was searching for something to wear the other day, I noticed that I now own a piece in almost every single color. I just need something in green and in purple and I will have officially completed the gingham rainbow! Not only does this fun print SCREAM summer, but it has been transformed in to pieces that could be incorporated in to anyone’s wardrobe. Go ahead and continue to read below to see some of my top picks in this pattern right now!
Does anyone else out there celebrate their half birthday? Because I do!
Today is officially my half birthday and I am now 26 (and a half) years old. I know it sounds crazy, but I have always wanted a summer birthday. I have had this wish ever since I was a kid for many reasons. The first reason was the fact that in the summer there were always a bunch of fun birthday party ideas – like going to the waterpark, riding on rollercoaster rides, or even having a camp fire. When your birthday is during the cold winter months in Minnesota, it usually involves no one being able to make it to your party because the roads are covered in ice. And if anyone were able to make it, you were forced to stay inside so your faces wouldn’t freeze off. The second reason is the December birthday curse. For all of the December babies out there, you know EXACTLY what I’m talking about! If your birthday happens to fall anywhere around Christmas time, you may or may not have experienced this said curse. It’s when either your birthday gift and Christmas gift are somehow combined in to being just one gift OR you want to celebrate and nobody is available because it is around the Holidays and everyone has prior commitments. I mean, it isn’t ALWAYS that way, but trust me, it definitely happens. That kind of curse is something a summer birthday will never have to experience.
This Saturday my husband gave me the best surprise ever – he brought me to The Scooper Bowl!!!
New York City was the first stop on the Scooper Bowl World Tour this year. I have never heard of it until this weekend, but I feel like it is something more people need to know about! The Scooper Bowl is the nation’s largest All-You-Can-Eat Ice Cream Festival. I mean, they had me at “all-you-can-eat ice cream” and they sealed the deal when they said it was all for an amazing cause. The proceeds for The Scooper Bowl benefit the Jimmy Fund, which supports pediatric and adult cancer care and research at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, and pediatric care at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. This festival made our tummies happy from trying ice cream from some of the most amazing creameries, and it made our hearts happy to be an active part in the Jimmy Fund’s mission to help fight cancer.
New York fashion – it is such a beautiful thing.
Honestly, that is what I was most excited about when I first found out that I would be moving to Manhattan. All I could imagine in my head was being able to dress up like Carrie Bradshaw everyday without having anyone judge me as I walked down the street. I have always had a passion for experimenting with style, but I felt like I never lived in a city that could accept or admire it. It was so refreshing to step outside for the first time and be completely comfortable with myself and what I was wearing. I mean, I was always confident enough to wear what I wanted in other cities, but it did bug me when others would constantly ask, “what are you wearing!?!?” At least the joke was usually on them when a few months down the line my outfit inspirations became the new hip thing that everyone had to get their hands on! That’s the perk of being able to study fashion trends – having the ability to forecast what the next big thing will be. People may look at you like you’re crazy when they see it for the first time, but I know in the back of my head that they will be reaching for the same pieces soon enough.
February. The month of love.
It’s always funny to me to see what this specific month seems to do to people. It creates such a huge divide between the ones who choose to celebrate love and the ones who get all down-in-the-dumps because they don’t think that they have it. Well I am here to bring you some good news – we all have love – and that’s something worth celebrating.
