Okay. Where did February go?
We even got an extra day added in to this month and it still flew on by! Well, with another month comes a few more beauty products that have been added to my ever-growing collection. This month’s beauty buys happened to have a little theme going on, too – cranberries & chocolate.
I don’t know about you beauties, but those are two of my favorite things. I use to think that cranberries & chocolate were only for eating, but they have quickly become some of my favorite things to wear on my face as well. No, I’m not talking about smearing those delicious goodies all over your face. I’m talking about all of the amazing makeup colors that are popping up in the richest cranberries and warmest chocolates.
Cranberry lips have been all the rage the last few seasons, but it seems as though it is being seen more and more up towards the eyes. I have spotted plenty of my favorite makeup gurus experimenting with a plethora of cranberry shadows, and it always looks so stunning. I am still trying to master the art of blending out cranberry shadows on my own eyes without it looking like I have an infection…so I decided to start with a few products that are a bit easier to work with.
As for chocolate – warm brown lips are the next big thing thanks to the recent release of the Kylie Jenner Lip Kits. The first round of her kits featured the most beautiful chocolate lippies, and ever since then, tons of makeup brands have been coming out with their own (and more affordable) chocolate kisses! I was hesitant to try such a bold color on my own lips, but I am so glad I did. I have a darker and a lighter, more neutral shade to share with you all today.
Clinique Chubby Lash Fattening Mascara – Black Honey : I was pretty blown away by this product. I have always been a Clinique mascara girl. To be honest, it is the only brand of mascara I actually use. I continuously re-buy my holy grail item, the Clinique High Lengths Mascara, but when I saw this amazing cranberry color in a different form, I just knew I had to try it out. Like I suspected, the actual mascara formula was outstanding. Clinique never seems to let me down. This mascara doesn’t smudge, flake, or get all clumpy. As if that wasn’t already enough, lets just take a moment to appreciate the beautiful cranberry color. The cranberry shade is dark enough to not be too in-your-face, but it is unique enough to really make a difference in your average makeup look. It is hard to see the color payoff in the picture I took, but when this mascara hits the light, you can definitely notice the rich cranberry color. I believe this would make any eye color pop, but I specifically love using it with my brown beauties because it brings out the warmer tones in my eyes. I also love how the thick, chubby wand applies the mascara. It is said to give you “extreme volume” but I noticed that it mostly lengthened and separated my lashes…but I have no complaints about that! The mascara formula and wand left my lashes looking long, wispy, and could make anyone think that they were falsies.
Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Waterproof Eyeliner – Burgundy 18L : I would say that this eyeliner is a MUST HAVE in your makeup bag! Even if you are not a big fan of the cranberry color, there are about 25 other colors to choose from in this same exact formula. This eyeliner is water proof, smudge resistant, and extremely pigmented. It also glides on to your skin nice and easy. And do you want to know a fun fact? Apparently this specific eyeliner was created for the Parisian Aquatic Ballet. It has been tested to last in water for over 5 hours! I mean, if that’s not a heavy duty eyeliner, I don’t know what is. I am over-the-moon happy that I received this little sample eyeliner as a gift. If it wasn’t for this sample, I don’t know if I ever would have wandered over in to the Make Up For Ever section at Sephora to test it out. Now that I know how amazing it is, I will definitely be getting a full sized one in the cranberry color…and then probably every other color ever made! I am really excited to incorporate this specific eyeliner color in to my every day routine because it is different and adds the perfect pop of color. I have found that it actually goes with a lot of different colors too – so it can be paired with almost any outfit!
Too Faced Melted Chocolate Liquified Lipstick – Chocolate Honey : I love everything about this liquid lipstick, but my favorite part has got to be how DANG GOOD IT SMELLS!!! The “flavor” of this is Chocolate Honey, but it smells like a delicious milk chocolate covered caramel. I literally have to stop myself from trying to eat it…because it doesn’t taste remotely as good as it smells. I also love how wearable this brown lippie is – perfect for more of an every day use. This liquid lipstick lets you rock the brown lip trend in a very neutral way. It also has an incredibly easy application, and it doesn’t dry out your lips like a lot of liquid lipsticks. I honestly think that this is another MUST HAVE for all of you makeup addicts out there!!!
ColourPop Ultra Matte Lipstick – Limbo : I have a love/hate relationship with this monthly beauty buy. First of all, the color is to die for. It is almost an exact dupe for the Kylie Jenner Lip Kit in True Brown K (except it is about $30 cheaper). The color also goes on and wears a lot darker than it looks in the tube…which isn’t a bad thing. The real bad thing about this liquid lipstick is that it is extremely drying. I mean, some people enjoy that in their matte lipsticks, but it’s not my cup of tea. I tried applying a hydrating lip balm before application and it actually helped quite a bit (I would suggest doing this trick if you don’t like you lips to feel super dry like me). Other than that, this product is great. The color is spot on and it is very long lasting. You could eat a burger in this lip color and it wouldn’t budge a bit. You also can’t beat the price – $6 for anything these days is always quite the steal.
FUN TIP: When you apply Limbo and then dab Chocolate Honey over it in the center, it creates a beautiful ombré lip! It also gives your lips a bit more dimension, which makes them look extra plump. I mean, we all love our lips to look nice and plump every once in awhile, don’t we!?
