This past Monday marked mine and Zach’s 3 year anniversary. How fitting is it that it lands in the month or love!? Not only do we get our own special day, but we also get to continue the celebration of what we have found together just a few weeks later on Valentines Day. This is the first year since we have been dating that we have actually gotten to spend our anniversary together. I guess that’s what you get when the majority of your relationship has been long distance. We even got to extend our celebration through the weekend (well, our Tuesday-Wednesday weekend)! It included waking up to flowers, lovely cards to one another, a couples massage, and a trip to the amazingly delicious Melting Pot (which has kind of become a tradition of ours). And just a little secret from me to all of you – the Yin & Yang martini there is the best drink you will ever have. You can go during happy hour at any location and get two-for-one. You can thank me later ;)
To this day I can still remember saying goodbye to Zach as he left for his study abroad trip to Europe 3 years ago in January. I remember being so disappointed in myself for not telling him how I really felt before he left. I couldn’t help but think that he would leave for a month on this “trip of a life time” and totally forget about the girl crushing on him back in Minnesota while he ran off with some European hottie. I felt like such a dork staying up until the wee hours of the night (even though I had an 8am Jterm math class), or racing back to my room at dinner, just to stare at my computer screen and hope to hear from him. A simple “hello” would immediately result in butterflies, and I could only hope that he was feeling the same way about me from halfway across the world.
The first time we hung out when he got back, we ended up talking for hours and hours until the middle of the night…and that’s when he asked me to be his girlfriend. It is now 3 years later and I am just as head-over-heels for this boy. A simple phone call or text will still give me those butterflies. It is hard for me to grasp how one human being could love another so completely, but I am glad that he is the one who is teaching me how. I couldn’t ask for a better love, a better best friend, or a better boyfriend.

Look at my little H&M model! As one of my gifts to Zach this year, I bought him a fancy new outfit. And yes, I may or may not have made it match the dress that I was planning to wear out on our date night. Personally I think it’s kind of cute when we match! To be honest, we usually do it even when we aren’t trying. He will wake up early and go to work, I will wake up much later to do the same, and when we meet up again later in the day we will totally be wearing the boy and girl version of the same outfit! I guess that’s what happens when you fall in love with your other half. As you can see in these pictures, he wasn’t too thrilled to be modeling his new threads, but I think he looks extremely handsome. And I appreciate him sucking it up and taking one for the team, hahaha.

As for my getup, I have been dying to wear this color block dress since I got it a few months ago! It is classy and sophisticated with a touch of artistic flare. Every lady needs a dress like that in her closet. The cut is flattering and timeless, and the color story is perfect for an icy winter ensemble or for the up-and-coming bright colors in the spring. I accessorized with some nude heels and a sequin clutch. All of the ladies were raving about my clutch when we arrived at the Melting Pot for our dinner date. I mean, I have been drooling over it since I got it too. I wish I would’ve stocked up on more clutches while I worked at BCBG. They really do have the best selection. And this Harlow clutch is my favorite style! It’s the perfect size and the shape, and structure compliments any outfit.
All in all, it’s been an absolutely magical weekend. Part of me can’t believe that it has already been three years that we’ve been together, but then I also feel like it’s been so much longer than that. When you truly meet your soulmate, it automatically feels like you have know each other for a lifetime. Zach is my rock, he is my sunshine, and he is the love of my life. He has made my life amazing in so many ways that I never thought possible. Somehow he always keeps me smiling day in and day out – no matter what the situation. He makes sure to kiss my head before he goes to work every morning, and he never fails to tell me that he loves me before we go to bed at night. He always makes me feel like the most beautiful girl in the world, and he treats me like his queen. I love you to the moon and back, Zachary. I can’t wait for what the next year has in store for our love story!
P.S. Here are just a few pictures from our Melting Pot experience! They were all so kind to us since we were celebrating our anniversary. They wrote us a sweet little card, we got heart shaped chocolate covered strawberries, and I think that they made me Yin & Yang martini EXTRA yummy :)
