February. The month of love.
It’s always funny to me to see what this specific month seems to do to people. It creates such a huge divide between the ones who choose to celebrate love and the ones who get all down-in-the-dumps because they don’t think that they have it. Well I am here to bring you some good news – we all have love – and that’s something worth celebrating.
Love doesn’t always have to be viewed in the romantic sense. It is more about taking the time to speak, listen, and care about those who are around you – whether that is your friends, family, coworkers, a random person on the street, your fur-babies, or most importantly yourself. Love is all around us and no certain kind should be viewed as being more important than another.
This Valentine’s Day was actually one of the best that I have ever celebrated, but it wasn’t because of the obvious reasons that you would expect. Most of my day was spent with my work family (eating numerous heart-decorated cupcakes), but we got an extra special treat when we were invited to attend the Revlon #CHOOSELOVE event later that evening. As we walked in to the building, we were swarmed by paparazzi taking our picture and asking who were were. Little did they know that we were just a pair of average Joe’s…maybe someday haha. The special preview was buzzing with beauty gurus and editors testing out all of the new lipstick shades, taking Photo Booth snapshots, sipping on Gwen Stefani themed cocktails, and getting mini makeovers. As if that wasn’t enough, the real treat was getting to sit down and listen to a discussion about love with Gwen herself! She made her big entrance as Revlon’s newest beauty ambassador and was kind enough to stick around and take pictures with everyone after her talk. I am not going to lie, I just about wet my pants when I found out that I would get to meet Gwen in person!!! She has been one of my idols for as long as I can remember and I have always admired how she has never been afraid to be 100% herself – no matter what others may think. She has been pushing the boundries of music, beauty, and fashion ever since she began, and that is something I have always loved about her. I wish I could tell you more about our 30 seconds together, but I am almost positive that I blacked out for the majority of it. This is all I know for sure: She smiled at me, we hugged, and we are now best friends forever.
As if I hadn’t already had enough love and happiness packed in to one day, I came home later that night to my wonderful hubby. It was our first time celebrating Valentine’s Day as husband and wife and he treated me like a queen, as always. We had a lovely dinner together, exchanged silly little gifts, and cuddled up on the couch as we binge watched some House of Cards and scarfed down (even more) cupcakes!!! We also got tons of cards from our beloved friends and family from across the country who showered us with even more love.
Though this Valentine’s Day (and really every day this February) has been bursting with all kind of love and happiness, I want to make it my own personal goal to #CHOOSELOVE every single damn day from here on out. There is something about mentally choosing to see all of the love around you that can make even your toughest day more special. I hope that all of you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day as well and may your hearts continue to be filled with every kind of love :) xoxo
